Basketball Blitz that was Organised between AMC Tuam and Colaiste an Eachreidh, Athenry during Active Week.
The schools 1st year Basketball team are seen here smiling brightly, and
rightly so. This photo was taken after last Fridays match against
Moneenageisha Community School, Galway. The students showed great determination as the score was matched right up to the last three minutes of the game. The boys refused to give in and Shane Zukovicscored the winning basketball along with the support of his team mates playing an extraordinarly strong defense and Dillon Reynolds making the winning pass allowing shane to make a fast break up the court to finish with his now skilled drive and lay up.
The team are due to play their rivals The Presentation School, Athenry in the county final and are looking forward to putting in the time in training to hopefully give them the advantage over their equally skilled opponents. The potential of this teams future in schools basketball is exciting and I am looking forward to coaching such a dedicated, skillfull and all-round lovely group of students.
Having recently been sponsored by Lyons Financial services for their
new kit, which is seen being sported by the players in the photo, it
seems the generosity of Lyons has brought us not only a very ‘a’ la mode’, top quality kit but one full of good luck. The boys were delighted at the support and it appears they wish to say their thanks in the possible form of YET ANOTHER gold county medal for the school.
ArchBishop McHale’s Second Year Basketball Team trained hard
throughout last year’s season and put up a great fight in all their
games. Having started off the season with a clear win against Colaiste
Eachraigh, things were looking positive, with Dylan Keane being the top
scorer for the team, closely followed Oisin Connelly. Our final game
brought great excitement when we came up against our strongest
challenger: The Pres Athenry. Determined to give them a run for their
money the boys battled hard throughout the first half and had gained
the lead going into the third quarter. Defense and offense was working
well but the Pres came back and brought the game level, basket for
basket. Eventually Archbishop McHale College gained the lead
and pulled ahead to claim the win.
Our U16 team is now back training. They are hitting the basket with precision, sharp
shooting, and on point defense. Thomas Brazas is already showing his
skills on boards, driving and shooting and Darren Mc Donald close to
three pointers having mastered 2 point shots. Here’s to what should be
an exciting season this year.
