Jodie Byrne, Diarmuid Heneghan and David Wall were shortlisted for the ‘Sew Cool Competition 2011′. 59 Junior Cert project pieces were shortlisted out of 350 enteries! The ‘Sew Cool’ exhibition was held in St.Angela’s College Gallery, Co. Sligo where our three students received their Certificates of Participation. TY Surfing Trip

29th March 2012: Transition Year trip to Lehinch, Co.Clare for a Surfing Lesson. It was a great day out in the sun for students to develop their confidence and social skills while creating a new sporting interest for life.

Kate Wright, The Cobblestone Café Galway, visited our school on World Home-Economics Day (Wednesday 21^st March) to give a Healthy Eating Cookery Demonstration to all 1^st Year pupils. Some of the yummie recipes Kate shared with us were Spelt Scones, Hummus and Carrot Pate, Vegetarian Enchiladas, Tzatziki and Steamed Tofu. It was a great chance for pupils to sample some interesting healthy foods and it was enjoyed by all.

Here are the 5th Year Business class who were accompanied by some TY students at a recent trip (20 Mar 2012) to C& F Tooling and Green Energy plant in Athenry. The group were accompanied by their teachers Mr. Heneghan and Ms. Coen.

We were very enlightened by the experience and the Manager Mr. Martin Hession left no stone unturned. First we had a walking guided tour of the facility followed by a presentation by Mr.Hession. He covered areas such as Production, Engineering, Stakeholders in the Business, Health & Safety, Insurance, Efficiency in the Business world, dealing with suppliers and customers and after sale service. We were amazed to learn that the company has taken on one hundred workers in the past two months and continues to grow. The company stated that a major customer of theirs had been importing a truck load of a specific material per day from North America and they now aim to be able to produce this locally. The ethos of C&F Tooling and Green Energy is to keep the jobs in Ireland at all costs. The presentation was a snapshot of the skills required to survive in Business today and also to instil in the students the importance of key skills they require in the workplace. We are very proud to present our Whole School Evaluation Report

Here are the Key Findings

· The school is inclusive, student centred and community focused.

· The principal and deputy principal provide excellent leadership.

· The school community is engaged in ongoing collaborative planning.

· There are excellent communication structures in all aspects of school life.

· There are various student-support and pastoral-care structures which provide a

cohesive and strong network of supports for students.

· The work of special-needs and learning-support team is commendable.

· The quality of teaching and learning was very good in the vast majority of lessons

observed and exemplary in over half of those.

· The school has a considerable capacity for self evaluation and improvement.

· Enrolment has been increasing steadily and currently, the school is over maximum

capacity.

CSPE Action Project to Renmore Barracks

The students were given a in depth tour of the barracks history, the role of the Irish Army in day to day events and their role in over seas projects with the EU, UN, and NATO

Students were given a weapons display and PowerPoint presentation by Sargent PJ Molloy and James Mulderrig.

A very educational trip was had by all.
